Reflective walls
Because polished plaster has a reflective finish, it throws light back into the room and adds depth to the surface. It is more expensive than usual plastering but it just needs waxing: no papering, no painting and no priming. |

Fancy Flooring
Use dark wood laminate finish floor tiles for the majority of the room. Make a recessed area in the middle of the floor to sink rugs into and keep the floor height consistent. |

Choosing a sofa
Sofas are expensive items and should be chosen carefully. Draw the outline of your chosen sofa on cardboard and then check that it is the right size for your room and that it will physically fit into the house. |

Chimney breast storage
Cut a hole in the front of the chimneybreast and insert shelving. For a truly glamorous finish, guild the fireplace with gold leaf. Apply a basecoat of paint and leave to dry for a couple of hours before applying the individual leafs. |

The window area
Create a 1930s look at the windows by attaching linen to simple wooden frames that emphasise the horizontals. Build window seats in bay windows to develop the 1930s theme and bring extra storage to the room. |

Textured accessories
Accessorise the room with objects in the same rich shades. Tall slim candlesticks, and shiny glass bowls work well with the design. Use rich coloured and textured fabrics on the upholstery. |
